Overview

Brittany Berckes maintains a transactional practice encompassing virtually all areas of entertainment law, including film, television, book publishing, podcast, theater, music and digital media law. Brittany is experienced in negotiating a wide range of deals on behalf of talent, authors and production companies, including talent agreements, option and development agreements, publishing agreements, services agreements, licensing and distribution agreements.

Brittany has significant experience serving as production counsel for theatrical films and scripted and non-scripted television productions and podcasts. She represents live stage theater producers in connection with the acquisition of underlying rights, as well as the financing and production of Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals and dramatic plays. Outside of her entertainment practice, Brittany also has experience with corporate, securities and financing law issues.

In addition, Brittany helps clients maximize the value of their literary assets, regularly representing fiction and non-fiction authors, publishers, literary agents, children’s book authors, illustrators, collaborators and celebrities on publishing, films, documentaries and television agreements, as well as on collaborator and illustrator agreements. In particular, she supports first-time authors in managing the various legal issues that occur throughout the publishing process, offering guidance on negotiating agency agreements and providing legal review of manuscripts.

While in law school, Brittany worked with Creative Rights, a nonprofit organization that provides legal services to artists, arts organizations and entrepreneurs in the Detroit area and interned at the legal departments at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and Jazz at Lincoln Center. Prior to attending law school, she interned with production teams at media companies that include MSNBC, FOX News and the Columbia Journalism Review.
