Loeb Guides Alcon Media Group in Acquisition of Village Roadshow Entertainment Group’s Film Library for $417.5 Million

Loeb & Loeb represented Alcon Media Group, an American independent film and television production company, in connection with its successful bid to acquire the film library of Village Roadshow Entertainment Group, a leading global entertainment company, for $417.5 million.

The acquisition includes Village Roadshow’s entire library of copyrights, distribution rights and cash flows. The library includes a significant portfolio of 108 feature films, with blockbuster franchises such as The Matrix, Ocean’s, Mad Max: Fury Road and Joker, and strengthens Alcon’s position as one of the largest independent owners of studio-distributed feature film libraries. The transaction followed a competitive auction process conducted as part of Village Roadshow’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.

The acquisition notably enhances Alcon’s existing content library, which already includes titles such as Blade Runner 2049, The Blind Side, Prisoners and My Dog Skip.

The Loeb team was led by Scott Edel, chair of the firm’s Entertainment department and Vadim Rubinstein, deputy chair of the Restructuring & Bankruptcy department, and included Brandon Cherry, Curt Bajak, John Kulback, David ManellaLauren Fried, Dimitry Krol, Ava Badie, Daniel Donohue, Noah Weingarten and Brian Hawk.
