May 1, 2018
Announcements/Press Releases

CHICAGO – Loeb & Loeb LLP today announced the addition of a prominent team of advertising, digital media, privacy and brand protection lawyers to the firm’s Chicago office. The group, formerly with Winston & Strawn LLP, is led by partners Brian L. Heidelberger, Monique N. Bhargava and Robert H. Newman, and is expected to include nine associates.

The additions expand Loeb & Loeb’s nationally recognized Advanced Media and Technology Department to more than 50 lawyers firm wide, and continue the firm’s steady growth in the Chicago market.

“It’s a pleasure to welcome this impressive group,” said James D. Taylor, chair of Loeb Loeb’s Advanced Media and Technology Department. “As businesses continue to evolve their methods for reaching and engaging with consumers, they need industry veterans who can help them navigate these fast-moving waters. The intersection of brand marketing and promotions, content, media and entertainment, technology, data optimization and privacy, and IP has long been a sweet spot for Loeb, and the addition of this highly regarded team underscores our commitment to leading in this space.”

“We are thrilled to continue our growth in Chicago with another powerhouse group of attorneys who complement our firm’s core strengths and strategic focus,” added Loeb & Loeb Chairman Kenneth R. Florin. “Brian, Rob and Nikki are extremely talented and their decision to join us is a testament to the strength of our unique service platform in the Midwest and nationwide.”

Brian Heidelberger is former head of the Advertising, Marketing and Brand Protection Practice at Winston & Strawn, where he also co-chaired the firm’s Intellectual Property Department. He has represented a multitude of the nation’s most revered brands and agencies in the marketing of their products and services. His diverse skill set includes counseling clients on matters related to advertising and promotions, privacy, new and social media, digital marketing, trademarks, copyrights and rights of publicity. He also represents brand clients in litigation and dispute resolution, and assists athletes, entertainers and their agents in a wide range of matters.

“It’s no secret that Chambers, Legal 500 and all the major legal guides consistently rank Loeb the best in all areas of advertising, technology and IP,” said Heidelberger. “But even beyond its market leading reputation, Loeb is a forward-thinking firm, focused on the cutting-edge issues that organizations are facing in today’s transformation age. We were drawn to that culture, which transcends practice areas at the firm, and presents unique opportunities to collaborate with new colleagues and assist our clients in new ways.”

Monique Bhargava counsels advertising agencies, brands, and media and technology companies on a variety of matters related to advertising, marketing, data privacy, digital media, domain name and other intellectual property matters. Her extensive experience includes advertising clearance, claim substantiation, technology and media agreements, consumer data use and monetization, IP licensing and enforcement, as well as negotiating sponsorship and talent deals.

Robert Newman focuses his practice on counseling clients in connection with privacy, data security, marketing, e-commerce and intellectual property matters. The former co-leader of Winston & Strawn’s Global Privacy and Data Security Task Force, Newman advises clients on their public-facing marketing communications, commercialization and enforcement of IP portfolios and litigation risk avoidance in connection with IP, marketing and emerging technologies.

The arrival of Heidelberger, Bhargava, Newman and their team follows a number of recent high-level additions to Loeb & Loeb’s Chicago office, which has grown by 60 percent in the past year and now includes 49 lawyers.
