Fu & Tong is a leading Chinese law firm, with offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Zhuhai, and an associate office in Hong Kong. It has a broad-based practice, including international finance and investment, securities, international trade, foreign-related dispute resolution, anti-dumping litigation, corporate restructuring, intellectual property and real estate. It has represented major American and European companies in business ventures and in litigation in China. Many of its lawyers were educated in American or British law schools and have worked for foreign firms.
Fu & Tong initially will provide Loeb & Loeb with office facilities in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, and will assist it in securing licenses from the Ministry of Justice to obtain representative offices in one or more of those cities. The firms will establish a joint committee to guide the development of their relationship. The committee will be chaired by Mitchell S. Nussbaum of Loeb & Loeb and Yongjun "Charles" Fu of Fu & Tong. The firms will develop joint marketing efforts and, with the approval of their respective clients, provide support to each other in their respective legal representations or undertake joint representation.
"We’re very excited about our alliance with Fu & Tong," said Mr. Nussbaum. "Many of our American clients see tremendous business opportunities in China and we are expanding our capabilities and expertise in this area to assist them. The Chinese economy is growing at a rapid pace, creating opportunities for our American and Asian clients. In addition to assisting a variety of our U.S. clients, we’ve helped numerous Chinese and other Asian companies list on the U.S. stock exchanges, including the first Chinese, Thai and Taiwanese companies to list on the American Stock Exchange."
"Our alliance with Loeb & Loeb comes at the right time," said Mr. Fu. "We have many U.S. and European clients that are doing business with China. We also have a growing number of Chinese clients that are doing business with the U.S. and Europe. Our practice has grown rapidly with China’s rapid economic growth. This alliance will definitely enhance our international practice and better serve our clients’ needs in developing international business opportunities."
