Loeb & Loeb Attorney Denise Stevens Honored by NSAI

The Nashville Songwriters Association (NSAI), a songwriters advocacy group, honored Loeb & Loeb attorney Denise Stevens with The President's Choice Award “in recognition of outstanding contributions to the protection and betterment of the songwriting profession." They presented Stevens with the award at their annual #1 party on September 25, 2007, where they honor the top Country songwriters of the past year.

Stevens has been instrumental in assisting NSAI, a pro bono client of the firm, in a number of ways. She drafted legislation entitled The Songwriters Capital Gains Tax Equity Act which was ultimately embodied in the Tax Reconciliation Act of 2005 (which was passed in 2006 and took effect on January 1, 2007) designed to help American songwriters receive fair tax treatment upon the ultimate sale of their creations, typically, when they sell a song catalog (a group of their songs).

John Frankenheimer, music industry attorney and Co-Chair of Loeb & Loeb said, “Denise was honored alongside impressive company, including ASCAP's Connie Bradley and former Sony Tree/Acuff-Rose music publishing chief Donna Hilley.”

Stevens is Senior Counsel in Loeb & Loeb’s Nashville office. She focuses her practice on entertainment, copyright and trademark transactions and counseling, primarily in the music industry. Her clients include recording artists, songwriters, producers, artist managers, authors, record labels and music publishers.
