Hollywood Dealmakers Eye Creators as Mega-Merger Options Dwindle

Loeb & Loeb Entertainment partner John Kulback is featured in article published by TheWrap recapping “The M&A Gold Rush in Media: Who’s Next?,” a panel discussion in which he participated at TheGrill conference, held on Sept. 30, 2026, in Los Angeles. During the panel, John and other industry leaders examined the evolving media dealmaking landscape and the growing investment focus on creator-led businesses, intellectual property and independent entertainment companies as investors seek new avenues for growth in an increasingly fragmented media and entertainment landscape.

During the discussion, John highlighted how creator businesses often evolve from personality-driven brands into more sophisticated enterprises that require additional infrastructure, including experienced commercial executives, strategic partnerships and specialized expertise in areas such as consumer products and live events.

“There’s all sorts of different ways that creators are finding ways to make money that require additional expertise,” John said.

John also addressed the growing impact of artificial intelligence on the media and entertainment industry, noting that emerging AI tools are increasingly blurring the distinction between technology IP and content IP. He discussed the resulting legal and business considerations surrounding copyright, image and likeness rights, and the role of industry guilds as AI becomes more deeply embedded in the content creation process.
