After Setback, Tech Firms Renew Push for Federal AI Regulation

Liz Allen, chair of Loeb & Loeb’s Emerging Technologies practice, is quoted in The Wall Street Journal discussing the uncertain future of federal artificial intelligence (AI) legislation following the removal of a proposed 10-year moratorium on state-level AI laws from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

According to the article, the moratorium had been designed to clear a path for federal oversight of AI-related data privacy and security, aiming to prevent a fragmented landscape of state-by-state regulations.

In the article, Liz noted that with the moratorium shelved, “it seems unlikely that any comprehensive federal AI regulation will be enacted in the near term.”
