Loeb & Loeb LLP partnered with the California Bar Foundation on the organization’s 2016 Diversity Scholarship Program, which provides financial assistance to rising first-year law students from communities underrepresented in the California Bar, with the goal of furthering diversity in the legal profession. For the third year running, the firm was pleased to underwrite a Diversity Scholarship in the name of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. The 2016 scholarship was awarded to UCLA School of Law student Mitzi Marquez at the California Bar Foundation’s Diversity Awards reception held on September 22 in Los Angeles.
Ms. Marquez graduated from UCLA, summa cum laude, with a B.A. in Political Science and Chicano Studies, and a Minor in Labor and Workplace Studies. While at UCLA, she volunteered for the CLEAN Carwash Campaign, the Dream Resource Center, and JusticeCorps which further augmented her desire for a career in public interest. Specifically, Ms. Marquez intends to practice immigration law as a result of her experiences growing up within a single-parent immigrant household. When her mother obtained her legal permanent residency, Ms. Marquez realized she wanted to be just like the immigration attorney that helped her mother achieve the American dream. Ms. Marquez will be attending UCLA School of Law where she will be specializing in the David J. Epstein Program in Public Interest Law & Policy.
Ms. Marquez is one of 34 1L student scholars selected by the California Bar Foundation in 2016. The scholarship recipients were selected based on academic achievements, financial need, and public service or leadership.
