In the 2010 edition of its annual U.S. guide, Legal 500 recognized Loeb & Loeb as a leading law firm in the areas of Marketing and Advertising, Data Protection and Privacy, Outsourcing, Mergers and Acquisitions, and Domestic Tax.

Marketing and Advertising:
Loeb & Loeb LLP combines litigation and regulatory strength with transactional prowess. The practice offers ‘an excellent service’ for matters ranging from sweepstakes and contests to cutting-edge marketing questions. Clients recommend New York-based practice co-chair Kenneth Florin who ‘promptly responds to client needs and is cognizant of both business and legal issues when providing advice’. Also in New York, ‘professional, knowledgeable’ practice co-head James Taylor and litigator Christian Carbone are recommended. Channing Johnson is an expert on cable industry issues.
Technology: Data Protection and Privacy:
According to clients, Loeb & Loeb LLP’s ‘fantastic’ multi-jurisdictional practice is ‘first choice’ for transactional work involving data and privacy issues, complex negotiations, data product design and related compliance and security procedures across emerging media and technology platforms. It combines the international expertise of ‘highly effective’ group head Ieuan Jolly, who ‘brings a practical approach to solving difficult data and privacy challenges’, with extensive experience in complementary areas, including technology and communications law, outsourcing and interactive media.
Technology and Outsourcing:
Although Loeb & Loeb LLP’s outsourcing practice is relatively new, it comprises attorneys with years of experience and strong market reputations. The group was formed by Kenneth Adler who specializes in high-end complex deals and includes two of his former colleagues from Thelen. In 2009, the team was boosted by the arrival of ‘impressive strategist’ Akiba Stern from Morgan Lewis, who is well known for advising on multi-tower outsourcing deals, and now comprises 11 attorneys including four partners.
M&A: Middle Market (sub-$500m):
‘A well-equipped M&A team’. The firm has made a series of recent hires, including energy M&A partner Frank Lee in New York, the recruitment being part of the firm’s attempt to complement its transactional platform in M&A, finance and securities, including the regulatory litigation area, while adding depth to its focus in the energy industry. Mitchell Nussbaum handles a large volume of commercial transactions, and works with US private equity funds and investment banks pursuing transactions in China.
Domestic Tax: West Coast:
Loeb & Loeb LLP’s Los Angeles-centered tax practice is well-targeted at California-based businesses, with an emphasis on serving new media and technology clients and of continuing to provide expert tax support to the real estate and agricultural sectors. The practice is very strong in the middle tier with a long-established reputation for tax advice and planning for closely-held family businesses, an offering which was enhanced by the recruitment of Paul Frimmer from Irell & Manella LLP in January 2010 to the respected personal and trust tax department, chaired by Stuart Tobisman.
