Loeb Wins "Special Situation M&A Deal of the Year" at 2026 Turnaround Atlas Awards

Loeb & Loeb is pleased to share that the firm has been named the winner of the “Special Situation M&A Deal of the Year” award at the 2026 Turnaround Atlas Awards by Global M&A Network. This year's awards gala was held on May 12, 2026, in New York City.

Now in its 18th year, the Turnaround Atlas Awards recognize firms across a range of deal categories, including the large mid-market category for M&A transactions valued at up to $500 million, in which the firm was honored. Independently judged, the awards are considered a benchmark of excellence in the industry, highlighting the strength of leading firms and teams through demonstrated leadership, experience and deal execution for transactions completed between Feb. 1, 2025, and Jan. 31, 2026.

The firm earned the “Special Situation M&A Deal of the Year” recognition for its representation of Alcon Media Group in connection with the acquisition of a film library, derivative rights and studio business assets from Village Roadshow Entertainment, valued at $417.5 million.

Through the acquisition, Alcon secured Village Roadshow’s entire library of copyrights, distribution rights and cash flows. The library includes a significant portfolio of 108 feature films, with blockbuster franchises such as The Matrix, Ocean’s, Mad Max: Fury Road and Joker, and strengthens Alcon’s position as one of the largest independent owners of studio-distributed feature film libraries. The transaction followed a competitive auction process conducted as part of Village Roadshow’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. It also enhances Alcon’s existing content library, which includes titles such as Blade Runner 2049, The Blind Side, Prisoners and My Dog Skip

The transaction was led by Scott Edel, chair of the firm’s Entertainment department, and Vadim Rubinstein, deputy chair of the Restructuring & Bankruptcy department, and included Ann Chen, deputy chair of the firm’s Capital Markets & Corporate department; Entertainment partners Brandon Cherry, Curt Bajak, John Kulback and David Manella, senior counsel Dimitry Krol and associates Ava Badie and Daniel Donohue; Litigation partner Lauren Fried; and Restructuring & Bankruptcy partner Noah Weingarten.
