Loeb & Loeb Announces New Consumer Protection Defense and Unfair Competition Group

LOS ANGELES - Loeb & Loeb LLP announced today that the firm has formed a Consumer Protection Defense and Unfair Competition Group, which will be an extension of the firm’s robust Litigation and Advanced Media and Technology Departments and chaired by Los Angeles partner Michael Mallow. The group is comprised of experienced litigators and trial attorneys who defend government enforcement actions, government investigations and private class action lawsuits that allege violations of consumer protection and unfair competition laws. The Consumer Protection Defense and Unfair Competition Group also represents businesses in inter-company disputes involving unfair business practices.

“Loeb & Loeb has been very active in the consumer protection litigation defense area for several years. We have 12 litigators currently focusing their practice in this space, and recently formalized the group in response to growing client demand in an increasingly regulated environment,” said Mallow. “Consumer protection disputes pose extraordinary risks to companies, and in turn, the livelihood of their employees. We use our experience to help clients implement internal practices and procedures intended to mitigate the likelihood and expense of future litigation by making our clients litigation ready.”

Members of the new group will work closely with Loeb & Loeb's prominent Advertising and Promotions team, which for many years has been handling false advertising claims and has extensive experience handling competitor challenges before the National Advertising Division of the Council for Better Business Bureaus (NAD), as well as in Lanham Act disputes.

“As we continue to grow our firm strategically to meet the needs of our clients, particularly in the areas of consumer protection defense litigation and marketing and advertising regulatory, we have assembled an impressive group of attorneys dedicated to all aspects of the litigation process involving consumer protection issues,” said Loeb & Loeb Co-Chairman Michael Beck.

Co-Chairman John Frankenheimer added, “the formalization of the Consumer Protection Defense and Unfair Competition Group will further enhance our capabilities in these core areas, allowing us to continue to attract top talent to the firm, and provide expert representation and counsel to our clients.”

Loeb & Loeb’s litigators have represented clients in consumer protection matters involving the United States Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Federal Communications Commission and state enforcement agencies in California, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Washington.
