Loeb & Loeb Announces Firm Leadership Succession Plan

Kenneth Florin to Succeed Michael Beck as Chair in 2018 following Years of Growth, Expansion; New Vice Chairmen, Office Managing Partners Named

NEW YORK (May 17, 2017) – Loeb & Loeb LLP today announced the succession plan for its Chairman post. Kenneth R. Florin was elected by a partnership vote to succeed Michael D. Beck as the firm’s Chair when Beck’s term expires on February 1, 2018. At that time, Beck, who has led the firm for the past 14 years, will assume the title of Chair Emeritus and will remain on Loeb’s board and on its compensation committee. Florin’s new three-year term as Chair will commence at that time and, in the interim, he will assume the title of Chair Elect.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to lead this extraordinary firm,” said Florin, a 25-year veteran with Loeb & Loeb who was serving as Deputy Chairman prior to this election. “I look forward to building on the strengths instilled by Michael’s steady and consistent leadership, and furthering the firm’s commitment to collaboration and innovation.”

Beck served as Co-Chair of the firm together with John Frankenheimer from 2004 until the end of 2010, when Frankenheimer stepped down and Beck became the firm’s sole Chair. During his tenure, Loeb & Loeb has expanded strategically, opening offices in Washington, DC, Beijing and Hong Kong. The firm has also witnessed significant growth, with the year just ended resulting in record revenue, profits and headcount.

“After yet another year of excellent firm performance, looking back, it has been my privilege to guide the firm through an exciting period of growth, profitability and accomplishment,” said Beck. “I am proud of the firm we are today and pleased to be turning over the reins to a respected partner like Ken, who has dedicated his career to Loeb and who is well positioned to take Loeb into the future with the support of a very talented leadership team.”

Florin is the founding Co-Chair of one of the largest legal teams in the country focused on addressing matters involving the convergence of advertising and promotions, emerging media, technology and privacy. He has served on a variety of Loeb & Loeb’s senior leadership committees, and also spearheads many of the firm’s client-driven initiatives.

In addition to its election of a new Chair, Loeb & Loeb also announced the appointment of partner Mitchell S. Nussbaum as Vice Chair. Nussbaum previously served as Office Managing Partner roles for New York office. Laurie S. Ruckel has assumed the position of New York Office Managing Partner and Paul W. A. Severin has assumed the role of Los Angeles Office Managing Partner.

Mitchell Nussbaum’s practice focuses on the representation of emerging growth companies and investment banks in initial public offerings, follow-on public offerings, shelf takedowns, registered direct placements, PIPEs and other private placements. He is Co-Chair of Loeb & Loeb’s Capital Markets and Corporate Department and also leads the firm’s Asia Practice.

Laurie Ruckel concentrates her practice on estate planning, succession planning, estate and trust administration and estate taxation matters for high-net-worth individuals, closely held businesses, real estate clients and executives of publicly held companies. She serves as Deputy Chair of Loeb & Loeb’s Trusts and Estates Department.

Paul Severin’s practice includes commercial finance, general corporate, mergers and acquisitions and securities matters, with a particular focus on the representation of financial institutions in secured and unsecured lending and finance transactions. He has served as Co-Chair of Loeb & Loeb’s Capital Markets and Corporate Department.
