概述
Ira Schultz concentrates his practice on estate planning, administration and tax matters, advising high net worth individuals, families and closely held businesses on gift and estate tax planning, trust administration, wealth transfer strategies and business succession planning. He has nearly 35 years of experience addressing complex estate and gift tax issues involving high-value estates, gifts and related structures.
Before entering private practice, Ira spent the majority of his career at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Most recently, he served as an appeals officer in the IRS’s Appeals Group, a specialized unit created in 2010 dedicated to estate and gift tax matters. In this role, he led a team assigned to matters involving the largest estate and gift tax deficiencies ever asserted by the government, including two matters in which the asserted deficiencies each exceeded $1 billion. Following the successful resolution of those matters, he was routinely assigned the IRS’s most complex estate and gift tax issues and served for nearly a decade as the lead appeals officer on split-dollar life insurance issues.
Earlier in his career, Ira worked in the IRS’ Estate and Gift Tax Examination Division as an estate tax attorney. He began his IRS career as a revenue agent, developing a strong foundation in corporate, partnership and Subchapter S taxation and in the analysis of sophisticated tax returns.
