Loeb in the Community

Loeb’s pro bono efforts continue to drive meaningful results. Below, we celebrate the firm’s five 2026 “Top Pro Bono Contributor Award” honorees and share highlights from two case victories and two recent clinics.

Recognizing Loeb’s 2026 Top Pro Bono Contributors

We are pleased to share that Loeb partner Lauren Richards; associates Chloe Gordils, Chanda Marlowe and Nick Warshaw; and paralegal Antoinette Pepper have been honored with the firm’s 2026 “Top Pro Bono Contributor Award” for their exceptional dedication to pro bono service over the past year.

Their work reflects the breadth and impact of the firm’s pro bono program, supporting initiatives such as developing practical guidance for wildfire relief and recovery efforts in Los Angeles County; providing pro bono representation to an individual with an intellectual disability facing the most severe criminal charges; assisting a family with a complex adjustment of status process; securing justice, safety and stability for two children; and delivering employment counseling and litigation assistance to pro bono clients.

As a token of appreciation, each honoree selected a legal services organization or nonprofit they collaborated with during the past year and the firm made a $1,000 donation to each organization on their behalf.

The firm’s Pro Bono Recognition Reception will be held on March 4 to celebrate the honorees. The reception will also recognize all Loeb lawyers and professional staff who contributed at least 20 hours of pro bono service in 2025.

Loeb Secures Pro Bono Victories, Restoring Honor and Benefits for Two Military Veterans

Two Loeb pro bono teams successfully secured life-changing outcomes for two military veterans, restoring honor and long-overdue access to critical benefits from the Veterans Administration (VA), in 2025.

Loeb Secures $290,000 in Retroactive VA Benefits for Navy Veteran

In early 2025, after years of advocacy, a Loeb pro bono team achieved a major victory for a Navy veteran living with multiple sclerosis and blindness, securing a retroactive payment of $290,000 to cover medical expenses dating back to 2012. The team discovered that his original 2012 claim had never been properly addressed and successfully invoked a procedural mechanism requesting the VA to correct the effective date of the claim. Through persistent advocacy, the Loeb team obtained years of overdue compensation for the client and ensured he received the full benefits he deserved.

Loeb Secures Honorable Discharge Upgrade for Air Force Veteran

In the second case, a Loeb pro bono team successfully obtained a discharge upgrade for an Air Force veteran—from general (under honorable conditions) to honorable—before the Air Force Discharge Review Board. The veteran’s initial discharge status had been based on a false claim of misconduct, leading to ostracization, assault by superior officers and peers, and a significant decline in his mental health, culminating in a diagnosis of service-connected post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The Loeb team presented compelling evidence, including medical opinions and lay statements, demonstrating that the original discharge was both improper and inequitable given his service-related PTSD. The upgrade restores his honor and provides access to benefits and recognition previously denied.

Loeb San Francisco Lawyers Support Alliance for Children’s Rights’ Winter Adoption Day

Ahead of the Alliance for Children’s Rights’ Winter Adoption Day with the Los Angeles court on Feb. 27, Loeb partnered with the nonprofit to support pro bono adoptions. Founded in 1992, the Alliance for Children’s Rights protects children in poverty and those overcoming abuse and neglect by providing free legal services, supportive programs and systemic solutions. Its Adoption Day events—held several times each year—are dedicated, celebratory court days focused exclusively on finalizing adoptions.

Five lawyers from Loeb’s San Francisco office stepped in to assist adoptive parents in two uncontested adoption cases for Winter Adoption Day (with a Feb.11 filing deadline). One matter involved the adoption of a one-year-old child, while the second supported the adoption of three siblings by their maternal grandmother and aunt—helping secure permanent homes for four children.

Loeb Lends a Hand to Families Seeking Conservatorship Assistance

On Dec. 9, 2025, Loeb partnered with Bet Tzedek to host a virtual Self-Help Conservatorship Petition Preparation Clinic, supporting individuals seeking to establish conservatorships for loved ones who need additional care and assistance. As part of a limited-scope initiative, the clinic helps equip prospective conservators with practical tools and guidance to navigate their legal responsibilities with confidence.

Bet Tzedek’s Self-Help Conservatorship program handles nearly 75% of all conservatorship filings in Los Angeles County, underscoring the clinic’s significant role in expanding access to legal support. The clinic kicked off with a one-hour training on conservatorship fundamentals and petition preparation, followed by hands-on support in drafting and completing clients’ petitions. In total, 10 teams—comprising 16 Loeb volunteers—successfully prepared approximately 20 conservatorship petitions.
