A Play-by-Play on Congress’s Efforts to Regulate College Sports

Brian Socolow, co-chair of the firm’s Sports industry group, is quoted in an Inside Higher Ed article discussing ongoing congressional efforts to regulate college athletics and establish a national framework for name, image and likeness compensation and revenue sharing.

The article explores the complexities and uncertainty surrounding proposed federal legislation, including competing bills in the House and Senate and the challenges of balancing athlete compensation, antitrust concerns and institutional control.

“There is currently a morass of confusion, a lack of clarity and lack of rules that motivates the need for legislation,” Brian said. “Given all the problems and complaints from all corners, plus the president’s support, I think it is likely something is going to happen. People care too much to let this continue.”
