School's Out: Eight Summer Reading Picks for IP Attorneys

Loeb & Loeb Litigation partner Frank D’Angelo spoke to Law360 in an article highlighting eight summer reading recommendations for IP lawyers, each suggested by practitioners in the field. In the article, Frank recommended Chronic City by Jonathan Lethem, a novel originally published in 2009 about a washed-up child star and a paranoid pop culture critic who form an unlikely bond while searching for meaning and authenticity in a surreal, commercialized New York City.

Frank, who concentrates his practice on copyright litigation and defamation matters, said that Chronic City's blend of the ordinary and the absurd offers a fitting reflection of today’s complex information landscape.

"The style and narrative make it difficult to decipher what's real and what's not, which is how the world can sometimes feel in today's cultural and media landscape," Frank told Law360.

Frank noted that the book was somewhat ahead of its time in its depiction of "chaldrons," described as collectibles that "seem to exist only in digital marketplaces and that are never clearly described or defined in the book beyond their prices."

"One can't help but think about [nonfungible tokens] and other digital assets when reading about them, which makes Lethem's novel particularly prescient," Frank added.
