Loeb & Loeb's Literary Business and Law Conference – Artificial Intelligence Panel

At Loeb & Loeb LLP's inaugural Literary Business and Law Conference on May 21, 2025 in New York City, Partner John Kulback and Senior Counsel Brittany Berckes moderated the panel, “How Can AI Help Publishers and Authors?” They were joined by the Director of Advocacy and Policy of The Authors Guild, Umair Kazi and the CEO of Shimmr AI, Nadim Sadek. The panel covered the implications of AI for publishers. It included discussions regarding how AI technology is being utilized by publishers in their traditional and digital business lines, the licensing of literary intellectual property to large-language-models (LLMs) and the copyrightability of the written word and audio-visual materials that have been supplemented or created by AI.
