Meet our New Partner - Tal Dickstein

Loeb & Loeb was pleased to elect Tal Dickstein to the firm's partnership late last year. We recently sat down with Tal for a Q&A session to learn more about his practice, clients and goals for the coming year.

How would you describe your practice (in 50 words or less)?

I am a litigator who primarily represents rights holders and content creators in a variety of intellectual property matters, including copyright infringement litigation, trademark disputes and licensing issues. I also handle a variety of commercial litigation matters, including real estate, insurance and breach of contract disputes.

Can you tell us about an important issue that you are helping your clients address?

I’ve had the opportunity to defend a number of copyright infringement claims in which we were able to show that the plaintiff’s work was actually created after our client’s allegedly infringing work, as part of a scheme to bring a fraudulent lawsuit against the client. Uncovering evidence of fraud is often difficult and time consuming, but it can be critical in avoiding a finding of copyright infringement. I have also been involved in obtaining recovery of our clients’ costs of defense under the fee-shifting provisions of the Copyright Act.

What do you hope to accomplish in the next year?

My goal is to grow and expand my representation of music publishers and record labels in copyright infringement and related disputes. I would also like to continue publishing articles on intellectual property law that can hopefully serve as a resource for rights holders and other practitioners in the field.

What makes Loeb & Loeb a good fit for your practice or for your clients?

Loeb has a stable of attorneys with experience representing media and entertainment industry clients in both transactional and litigation matters. This wealth of experience allows us to provide timely and targeted advice without the need to spend time or resources climbing an extended “learning curve.” Being a full-service firm with sophisticated practices in areas as diverse as advertising and advanced media, capital markets and tax, allows us to address almost any legal challenge that our clients may face.
