Courtney Tsai focuses her practice on advising high net worth donors and family offices on philanthropic planning matters. She counsels clients on structured giving considerations involving donor advised funds, private foundations, charitable trusts and estate planning vehicles. She also advises clients on donations of illiquid assets, including private business interests, real estate, restricted stock, cryptocurrency, art and alternative investments such as hedge fund and private equity interests.
Before entering private practice, Courtney served as a charitable strategist at DAFgiving360 (formerly Schwab Charitable Fund), where she counseled clients and financial advisors on the tax implications, processes and risks associated with gifts of non-cash assets, foundation dissolutions and legacy gifts. With almost two decades of experience, Courtney has a robust track record in crafting effective philanthropic gift planning solutions. She previously served as assistant vice president of planned giving at George Washington University and was a member of the charitable gift planning teams at the University of Chicago, Pepperdine University and Easterseals, a nonprofit dedicated to individuals with disabilities and special needs. She also advises donors on making impactful legacy contributions with careful consideration of family dynamics, asset classes, estate planning vehicles and the benefiting charities.
Courtney is passionate about helping clients fulfill their philanthropic goals by closely collaborating with the beneficiary nonprofit entities.
Outside of her practice, Courtney is actively involved in her community, including serving as a coach and board member for Girls on the Run Northern Virginia.
