NEW YORK – Loeb & Loeb LLP is pleased to announce that Governor “Gray” Davis Jr., Of Counsel in the firm’s Los Angeles office, will address the Class of 2009 at the 148th Commencement of Columbia University Law School on Thursday, May 21st at 1 p.m. on the South Lawn of the campus.
Born in New York, Davis earned his J.D. degree from Columbia Law School and then served in Vietnam as a captain in the U.S. Army, earning the Bronze Star for meritorious service. At Loeb & Loeb, he provides strategic advice to clients on numerous matters. He is also a Senior Fellow at the UCLA School of Public Affairs and regularly speaks before various academic and civic groups.
As governor of California, Davis made education a top priority, signing legislation to strengthen California’s K-12 system, increasing accountability in schools, and expanding access to higher education with a record number of scholarships and college loans. Davis created four Centers of Science and Innovation on University of California campuses, and expanded state health insurance for an additional one million children. He was also the first Governor in the nation to sign laws to reduce global warming and greenhouse gas emissions, and authorize stem cell research.
