Loeb Advanced Media & Technology partner Nerissa Coyle McGinn is quoted in Lexology PRO discussing Nebraska’s newly enacted Age-Appropriate Online Design Code Act and its implications for companies offering online services to minors.
“The Nebraska Age-Appropriate Design Code is unique because of the list of specific ‘accessible and easy-to-use tools’ that are required under the act,” Nerissa said. “The Act requires tools for minors (defined as a child under the age of 18) to limit the ability of users to communicate with the minor; allowing the individual to opt out of all unnecessary design features; and allowing the minor to opt out of purchases. It may not only be difficult for companies to implement this functionality but also to make them ‘accessible’ to minors.”
