Partner Terence Wong Discusses Newly Formed International Mediation Body with South China Morning Post

Loeb Litigation partner Terence Wong is quoted in two articles published by the South China Morning Post discussing the significance of the newly established International Organisation for Mediation (IOMed) headquartered in Hong Kong. On May 30, 2025, Chinese diplomat Wang Yi, Director of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Central Committee Foreign Affairs Commission Office, met with additional officials and legal representatives following the signing ceremony of the Convention on the Establishment of the International Organisation for Mediation.

In the first article published on May 28, Terence noted that the establishment of the body in Hong Kong is significant for China, as it is the “first global legal institution focusing exclusively on mediation.”

“Its mediation services offer a practical, less adversarial alternative to arbitration or litigation, which can be costly and time-consuming.” he added.

“The IOMed leverages Hong Kong’s expertise, legal infrastructure and talent pool to offer mediation services for international disputes and it is well-positioned to handle international commercial and investment disputes, due to Hong Kong’s established reputation as a global mediation and arbitration hub,” said Terence in the second article published on June 21.
