Loeb Represents NPR Podcast in Exclusive Licensing Deal with Amazon Music and Wondery

Loeb & Loeb represented National Public Radio (NPR) in an exclusive three-year advertising and licensing deal with Amazon Music and Wondery, the largest independent podcast publisher in the world, for NPR’s How I Built This podcast, hosted by Guy Raz.

This is the first deal that Amazon and Wondery have made with a podcast on NPR, and new episodes will air one week early on Amazon Music, Amazon Prime and Wondery for premium subscribers before being released to other major podcast platforms. NPR will still broadcast How I Built This episodes after their initial exclusive run on Amazon and Wondery.

Under the deal, Wondery will have exclusive rights to commercial ad sales and YouTube distribution rights, while NPR will retain radio distribution rights and underwriting. NPR first launched How I Built This in 2016 and it has expanded to over 354 public radio stations, and recently won an iHeartRadio Podcast Award for best business and finance podcast.

The Loeb deal team that advised NPR in its exclusive partnership with Amazon Music and Wondery was led by Podcast chair Anne Kennedy McGuire.
