Think Like a Lawyer, Talk Like a Geek 2014: Get Fluent in Technology

Loeb & Loeb LLP is pleased to announce that partner Ken Adler will be speaking at the upcoming Practising Law Institute Seminar titled "Think Like a Lawyer, Talk Like a Geek 2014: Get Fluent in Technology" on the topic, "Cloud Computing: Understand the Technology to Avoid the Pitfalls."

From seminar website:
It has been thirty years since Apple’s introduction of the original Macintosh computer started the personal computing revolution. The original floppy disk has been replaced by current thumb drives that can store an entire library on a single device. The availability of cheap and ubiquitous computing power is changing all aspects of business. As businesses evolve into new models, the legal issues they confront only multiply. A lawyer who does not understand the technology issues confronting his/her clients cannot be an effective counselor, since technology issues arise in clients’ daily contracts, business negotiations and litigation.

Lawyers, who often have no technical training, are required by court rules to report on their client’s technology infrastructure so that a judge may address electronic discovery issues. Technology issues and conflicts over IP impact many types of business disputes. Many discovery issues can be resolved without reliance on expensive outside experts, if counsel understands the underlying technology. Also, avoiding unnecessary disputes will speed up litigations and make them more cost-effective. Most important, success in the courtroom often depends on the most effective understanding and analysis of underlying technology.

The lawyer who understands his or her client’s technology will stand out as a trusted counselor who can be given the most challenging and complex issues. This unique program will give lawyers the necessary background to become more knowledgeable and effective advocates in technology-related matters. It will present extraordinary sessions combining experienced technology lawyers with industry hi-tech experts, and you will learn simple explanations of current technologies.
What you will learn:
  • Data security issues arising out of collecting Big Data
  • Top mistakes companies make when preparing for and responding to cyber breaches
  • How cloud computing is changing business models
  • Examples of ambient and social media data
  • Key issues for digital distribution of movies and TV content
  • What technology is being used in connection with the creation and dissemination of advertising and interactive marketing
