Represented Broadway producer in lawsuit regarding classic novel “To Kill a Mockingbird"

Represented the producer of the Broadway adaptation of Harper Lee’s classic novel “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Ms. Lee’s estate filed a lawsuit in federal court in Alabama arguing that the play “derogated or departed” from the “spirit” of the novel and altered certain characters allegedly in violation of the agreement between Ms. Lee and the producer, signed prior to Ms. Lee’s death in 2016. Loeb successfully moved for expedited discovery and resolution of the producer’s declaratory judgment claims after commencing a new action in federal court in New York. After the Alabama action was transferred to New York, the matter settled favorably, and the play opened on Broadway in December 2018.
