As chair of both the Television and Literary Publishing practices, Marc Chamlin is known for working across multiple legal and business disciplines in the media, publishing and digital industries, representing television, film and digital media companies, publishers and literary agencies, as well as book authors, producers, actors, directors, television and film writers, and other high-level talent in the full spectrum of transactional entertainment matters. 

Marc’s practice includes structuring and negotiating complex investments, joint ventures, and corporate and licensing transactions for iconic media personalities, legacy literary and intellectual properties, and privately held and institutional media companies. Marc also provides confidential counselling to C-suite media executives in connection with their executive employment contracts.

A veteran dealmaker, Marc provides counsel for nonfiction/reality and scripted series development, production and distribution across cable, broadcast and digital platforms, and regularly handles production, licensing and distribution arrangements for animated and live-action productions, podcasts and documentary films. Marc also advises institutional and talent clients in connection with merchandising, licensing, sponsorship and endorsement deals.

Marc’s unique breadth of experience is illustrated through his representation of Oprah Winfrey and her company, Harpo, in connection with a broad initiative of original productions, investments and strategic partnerships reflecting her business interests and personal philosophy. His counsel has included advising Ms. Winfrey and Harpo in connection with the first year 2025 launch of “The Oprah Podcast,” and thereafter, negotiating a multi‑year agreement in 2026 for the podcast with Wondery, a subsidiary of Amazon, for exclusive distribution and advertising rights across audio and video platforms. In addition, the Amazon deal includes a license to Amazon Prime of episodes from “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” Oprah’s 25-year legacy syndicated series. His work with Ms. Winfrey has included advising on her investment partnership with Weight Watchers International, her equity interest in OWN, the management and distribution of the Harpo television library and the joint venture with Hearst to launch the digital platform “Oprah Daily.” Marc has negotiated Oprah’s corporate event speaking engagements and international tours, including her December 2025 Australian speaking tour, as well as providing counsel in respect of the development and production of a wide variety of programs across multiple platforms, including broadcast network primetime Oprah Winfrey Specials such as “Oprah with Meghan and Harry,” “Shame, Blame and the Weight Loss Revolution,” “AI and the Future of Us,” “The Presleys - Elvis, Lisa Marie and Riley” and "The Menopause Revolution." Lastly, Marc acts a counsel to Oprah’s Book Club in connection with its selections and agreements with publishers, and negotiates Ms. Winfrey’s own authored book deals, including best-selling books with co-authors such as Dr. Ania Jastreboff (“ENOUGH: Your Health, Your Weight and What It’s Like to Free“), Bruce Perry (“What Happened to You?”) and Arthur C. Brooks (“Build the Life You Want”).

Marc has been recognized for his deep influence in the entertainment industry by publications such as Chambers USA, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. In addition to his practice, he serves on the board of trustees of the venerable New York Public Radio and leads the firm’s pro bono work for the organization’s WNYC Studios and its innovative initiatives as a leading creator of radio programs, classical music and podcasts.
