Loeb & Loeb Opens Virginia Office with Addition of Renowned Private Client and Tax Team

Loeb & Loeb is pleased to announce that it has expanded its presence in the mid-Atlantic region with a new office in Tysons, Virginia. The opening of the office coincides with the addition of a prominent group of private client and tax controversy attorneys who join from Reed Smith, including partners Kelley C. Miller, James E. McNair and Gregory J. Rupert, and counsel Calvin Cobb.

Miller, McNair, Rupert and Cobb are joined by a group of four other lawyers and staff. The group practices in the areas of federal and state tax planning, estate and gift planning, tax controversy, executive compensation, estate administration and litigation. They are widely recognized as one of the premier private client groups in the country.

“We are thrilled to launch our new office with this exceptionally skilled group whose practice aligns well with our own,” said Mitch Nussbaum, co-chair of the firm. “Establishing a presence in such a dynamic and fast-growing region also marks an important step in our strategic growth. Tysons is a meaningful addition to our platform and a natural progression as we thoughtfully explore opportunities in key markets.”

Miller represents leading companies, privately held businesses and high net worth individuals in complex federal tax controversy matters, and estate and gift planning. Miller regularly appears before the IRS, U.S. Tax Court and other federal tax authorities. McNair has significant experience with federal tax matters, focusing on estate planning and succession strategies for closely held businesses, and maintains one of the most significant wealth preservation practices in the region. Rupert advises individuals and closely held businesses on federal tax matters, with a focus on estate and business succession planning, as well as general business and tax issues related to complex estate and trust strategies. Cobb advises individuals and closely held businesses on federal and state estate tax matters, with a focus on trust and estate administration and fiduciary litigation, as well as general business and tax issues related to complex estate and trust strategies.

“It is an honor to join a group nationally recognized for its depth, sophistication and commitment to excellence in private client services. We are eager to build upon Loeb’s platform, collaborate with our new colleagues and continue the practice’s strong trajectory as the leading private client services team in the country,” said Miller.

Loeb & Loeb has one of the largest and most distinguished private client practices in the country, offering estate planning, trust and estate administration, business succession planning, tax controversy resolution and wealth dispute management, as well as counsel on charitable organizations and philanthropic giving, and art and cultural property matters. Among its many accolades, the practice and its lawyers are routinely ranked in the Chambers High Net Worth Guide.

“Kelley, Jim, Greg and Calvin bring decades of experience to the firm and deepen our ability to serve clients with sophistication and excellence, particularly with regard to tax controversy issues,” said Cristine Sapers, co-chair of the firm’s Private Client practice. “Their arrival reflects our continued investment in building a premier national private client services platform.”

This new office marks the firm’s 7th location in the United States and 9th globally.
