Loeb & Loeb Litigation partner Devin Donohue appeared as a guest on AirTalk, a live radio show hosted by Larry Mantle, to discuss the future of the Los Angeles Zoo as the city’s contract comes to an end with Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association (GLAZA), a nonprofit organization that supports the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens.
In the show, Devin states that “GLAZA has built up an eight-figure endowment and now the city wants to seize that endowment. This lawsuit is a very troubling precedent for nonprofits like GLAZA.” He adds, “The city is saying that if you enter into a partnership with them and that relationship ends, they will try to strip you of your hard-earned endowment and claim ownership of it. It’s also troubling that donors who believed they were giving to a charity and have no interest in donating to the city of L.A. are going to have their funds diverted to the city of Los Angeles.”
