Anita P. Wu is an accomplished trial and appellate lawyer with 15 years of experience representing high net worth individuals and industry-leading companies in high-stakes litigation over a broad range of matters in state and federal courts – including trust and estate matters, professional liability, corporate governance, securities fraud, bankruptcy, tax and accounting issues. Anita has achieved highly favorable results at trial, on dispositive motions, in settlements, and on appeal. In recent years, she has obtained complete defense victories in lawsuits claiming hundreds of millions of dollars in damages. She has also successfully represented clients in government and regulatory investigations and proceedings by the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission and U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Anita has been recognized by Super Lawyers and Los Angeles magazine as a “Rising Star” in Litigation for 8 consecutive years since 2013, and as one of the “Top Women Attorneys in Southern California.”
Anita joined Loeb & Loeb LLP’s highly acclaimed Trust & Estate practice in 2016, after a decade of experience handling complex business and securities litigation. She currently focuses her practice on representing high net worth individuals and public figures in litigation involving estate planning and private wealth issues – including will and trust contests, financial elder abuse, heirship disputes, conservatorships, fiduciary litigation, wealth management and tax matters. Representative matters include securing a trial court judgment confirming the mental capacity and free will of billionaire Sumner Redstone to execute his estate plan, and serving as trial counsel in a 10-week bench trial defending a decedent’s estate plan against claims alleging lack of capacity, undue influence, fraud and elder abuse.
Anita also has substantial experience handling matters on appeal, and previously worked at the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Appellate Division in Washington, D.C. She has authored winning appellate briefs and writ petitions in matters before the California Court of Appeal, the California Supreme Court, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third, Ninth and Tenth Circuits, and the U.S. Supreme Court. In 2020, Anita’s oral argument in Rallo et al. v. O’Brian resulted in a complete victory in a unanimous, partially published opinion by the California Court of Appeal, which affirmed the trial court dismissals she had won against lawsuits filed by individuals who claimed to be biological children of deceased actor Hugh O’Brian and sought to share in his estate as allegedly omitted heirs. In 2013, Anita was recognized as a “Pro Bono Star” for her briefing and oral argument before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals challenging a second-degree murder conviction due to erroneous jury instructions.
Anita graduated magna cum laude from Yale University in 2003 with Distinction in Philosophy, and received her law degree from Yale Law School in 2006. While in law school, she served as Co-Chair of the Yale Moot Court of Appeals, and editor of the Yale Journal of International Law. She was elected to represent the law school in the Yale Graduate & Professional Student Senate. In addition, Anita was a John Fletcher Caskey Prize Finalist in the Yale Mock Trial Competition, and Thurman Arnold Prize Semi-Finalist in the Yale Moot Court Competition.
Anita currently serves as the President of the Yale Club of Los Angeles, comprised of more than 6,000 Yale undergraduate and graduate school alumni in the greater Los Angeles area. In recent years, Anita has also served as the National Chair of Law Practice Management for the American Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division, and on the Editorial Board of Los Angeles Lawyer. She served on the Associates Advisory Board of the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles from 2007-2016. In addition, Anita is regularly asked to conduct training for young lawyers and law school students on effective legal writing, trial advocacy, oral arguments, and taking and defending depositions.
