Laura A. Wytsma

Partner (On Leave)

Laura Wytsma’s practice focuses on intellectual property proceedings in federal court, with an emphasis on patent and appellate litigation. In addition to intellectual property matters, Laura's broad litigation experience includes representations involving claims for false advertising and Lanham Act violations; defamation; violation of privacy and publicity rights; telemarketing litigation; and complex commercial disputes.

In addition to her appellate work, she has substantial trial experience. During law school, Laura tried numerous misdemeanor criminal cases, successfully securing convictions in all of the cases. After law school, she served as a trial attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice's Honors Program. As a government trial attorney, Laura gained daily courtroom experience as she tried hundreds of criminal and removal cases for the INS. Following her transition to civil practice, she has continued trying cases in patent infringement matters.

Laura is actively involved in pro bono litigation and has represented over a dozen refugees seeking asylum from China, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Iran, Mexico, Russia, and Syria, as well as victims of domestic violence, in Immigration Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
