Alexandra Cavazos helps companies define and defend their valuable intellectual property. She maintains a broad patent law practice, with considerable experience in life sciences patent litigation and counseling.
Alexandra's litigation practice focuses on representing pharmaceutical companies in Hatch-Waxman litigation in district court proceedings and before the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, where her deep scientific knowledge in the fields of chemistry and biology makes her an excellent advocate for her clients.
However, Alexandra has also brought her scientific skills to bear in interference proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, where she helped two of the top universities in the world successfully defend their patents on DNA-editing technology. She has also handled inter partes review (IPR) proceedings before the PTAB, where she has helped clients in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries defend their patents against challenges to their validity.
Due to her litigation experience, Alexandra excels at anticipating and mitigating IP risks for her patent prosecution clients. She has prosecuted domestic and international patent applications covering biotechnological and chemical inventions such as immunostimulatory DNA sequences, RNA-modulating therapeutics, pharmaceuticals and bacterial biofuel production systems.
Alexandra understands the importance of providing timely and insightful advice regarding IP risks to her investment banking and corporate clients, and she has conducted due diligence reviews ranging in size from small seed investments to larger acquisitions in the medical device, drug delivery and pharmaceutical fields.
