John Baldrica is a seasoned entertainment attorney focusing primarily on matters involving guild, union and other production-related employment issues. Having practiced in litigation and within the labor and legal groups at Fox Studios and SAG-AFTRA, John brings a deep industry knowledge that allows him to serve as a strategic adviser and advocate for his clients.
John regularly advises content producers on guild obligations and legal concerns arising during all phases of high-budget theatrical, television, commercial and interactive projects, and has the breadth of practical experience to frequently serve as “outside, in-house counsel” to nimble clients working in fast-paced production environments and in streaming and social media.
John has a background in handling both industry-wide collective bargaining and single-production-focused negotiations with U.S.-based and foreign unions, including SAG-AFTRA; UBCP/ACTRA; DGA; WGA; AFM; IATSE; and Teamsters. He guides clients through the complex guild and labor issues related to project financing and distribution, residuals and benefit obligations, advertising and influencer promotions, digital and virtual reality content, compliance and production safety, minors and foreign talent, and human resources and employment concerns. He is well-versed in labor investigations and arbitrations, National Labor Relations Board matters, and internal employment disputes.
John presents frequently on the unique context of entertainment labor and the legal issues faced by creators working in games and developing technologies, and has led law-focused seminars for professional artists at the UCLA Extension program for Design Communication Arts.
