Loeb & Loeb Grows Chicago Office with Distinguished White Collar Duo Joseph Duffy and Corey Rubenstein

CHICAGO (April 3, 2017) – Loeb & Loeb LLP announced today that white collar defense attorneys Joseph J. Duffy and Corey Rubenstein have joined the firm’s Chicago office as partners in the Litigation Department. The pair join from the litigation boutique Stetler, Duffy & Rotert, Ltd., where Duffy was founding principal. They will continue to focus their practices on high profile white collar criminal trials and corporate prosecutions, internal and government investigations, and complex civil litigation.

“Joe is one of the top white collar criminal attorneys in the Chicago market. Together with Corey, he brings significant experience in private practice and government, both in investigations and at trial,” said Daniel G. Murphy, chair of Loeb & Loeb’s Litigation Department.

Loeb & Loeb Chairman Michael D. Beck commented, “the addition of two seasoned partners of this caliber to our growing Chicago office greatly enhances our service offerings for Midwest clients and further strengthens our litigation platform nationally.”

“I’ve known Joe and Corey for many years and their track records and reputations are outstanding,” added Jeremy D. Margolis, partner and co-chair of Loeb’s White Collar Criminal Defense and Investigations Practice. “We’re thrilled to welcome them to our team as we continue to expand our presence in this important market.”

Duffy is an accomplished trial lawyer who handles all aspects of federal and state criminal prosecutions through the investigative, prosecutive and appellate stages. He has defended numerous entities and individuals in government investigations as well as civil and criminal jury trials and appeals, including health care, antitrust, defense procurement, securities, environmental and tax matters. As a prosecutor in the Chicago U.S. Attorney’s office, he served as First Assistant and focused on matters involving complex financial crime and public corruption. Recognized by Chambers USA and other legal directories as one of the country’s leading white collar defense attorneys, Duffy was lauded in the 2016 book, Golden: How Rod Blagojevich Talked Himself out of the Governor's Office and into Prison, authored by Jeff Coen, for his exceptional cross examination of the government’s key witness in defense of Antoin Rezko, a fundraiser for former Illinois Governor Blagojevich.

Rubenstein currently serves as the Chair of the Criminal Law and Procedure Committee for the Seventh Circuit Bar Association. He represents individuals and corporations in connection with the investigation, trial and appeal of a wide range of matters, including securities and accounting fraud cases, financial crime, public corruption, antitrust, criminal tax charges, health care and environmental matters, and RICO charges, as well as regulatory and enforcement actions brought by federal, state and local agencies. He also conducts internal investigations for companies and municipalities faced with suspected misconduct by their employees. In addition, Rubenstein has been recognized by Law360 as a “Legal Lion” for his unusual string of successes in the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

“Corey and I have incredible respect for Jeremy and the tremendous bench of trial and appellate talent at Loeb,” said Duffy. “We are very excited to join this excellent team and to work with new colleagues to grow the firm’s white collar and trial practice in Chicago and nationwide.”

Duffy earned his J.D. from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago and a bachelor’s degree in accounting with honors from DePaul University. Rubenstein holds a J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School and a bachelor’s degree with highest distinction from the University of Michigan, where he was Phi Beta Kappa.
