Loeb & Loeb Builds Western Europe Practice with Addition of Partner Philippe Manteau

NEW YORK (April 4, 2016) – Loeb & Loeb LLP announced today that Philippe Manteau has joined the firm’s New York office as a partner in the Capital Markets and Corporate Department. Manteau will serve as Chair of the firm’s Western Europe Corporate Practice, focusing on the representation of French, European and other international private companies in their U.S. investments and cross-border transactions, as well as litigation.

“With the addition of a seasoned international attorney like Philippe, our firm continues to strengthen our cross-border capabilities and we are well positioned to service clients throughout Western Europe, helping foreign companies navigate complex international corporate and commercial transactions, as well as a range of other legal matters,” said Mitchell S. Nussbaum, New York Office Managing Partner and Co-Chair of Loeb & Loeb’s Capital Markets and Corporate Department. “European companies see many opportunities in the United States and we believe the outlook for inbound investments and transactions into the U.S. is strong.”

Manteau advises private companies, government agencies and individuals throughout Europe, primarily in the areas of corporate and business law, as well as technology transactions. He also serves as outside U.S. general counsel to a variety of European clients, providing day-to-day legal and business counsel in matters of all types. Manteau is active in multiple industries, including software and information technology, medical devices, pharmaceutical, industrial equipment, consumer brands and retail, food and beverage, and fashion.

“Philippe has a unique understanding of foreign companies’ culture and needs with respect to their U.S. investments, which will be a tremendous boost to the firm’s cross-border transactional offerings in Europe, as well as an asset for our U.S. clients operating abroad,” said Loeb & Loeb Chairman Michael D. Beck. “We are pleased to welcome him.”

“Loeb’s core practice areas and solid infrastructure offer a perfect platform for my practice,” said Manteau. “From technology to life sciences, equipment to consumer-oriented industries, and real estate to trusts and estates, the firm’s strengths are extremely well aligned with my clients’ needs. In addition to this great practice synergy, I was also attracted to Loeb’s friendly, collegial atmosphere and I look forward to working with such an impressive group of colleagues.”

Prior to joining Loeb & Loeb, Manteau was a partner and co-leader of the International Client Service Group at Schiff Hardin LLP. Before transitioning into a U.S. lawyer, he spent several years practicing in Europe. He established the Paris-based Merger/Antitrust and Commercial Law practice at UK-based law firm Herbert Smith LLP and also served as the U.S. head of the European Union desk of Donahue & Partners, an American firm affiliated with Ernst & Young.

Manteau is a graduate of Fordham University School of Law (LL.M., Corporate Law and Finance, cum laude), Université Paris X - Nanterre (D.E.S.S., European Business Law, with honors; and J.D., French, German and European Business Law) and Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris (M.B.A., Economics and Finance Section).
