Monica Ryan focuses her practice on a broad variety of entertainment, advertising, digital media and music matters. Monica counsels clients on all aspects of content production, acquisition and distribution, including drafting and negotiating music, talent, development, production and licensing agreements, with a focus on user generated content, branded content and new media distribution models. She also regularly reviews promotional and creative marketing materials to ensure compliance with FTC and e-commerce laws, as well as intellectual property and privacy laws.
Monica previously served as in-house legal counsel focused on entertainment and music matters. She proposed, drafted and negotiated a wide variety of agreements related to the music recording, publishing and distribution industry, as well as content acquisition, development and production agreements; she also advised on day-to-day production and publishing matters involving permits, licenses, insurance, chain of title, guild issues, risk management and rights assessment, and provided guidance on intellectual property, privacy rights, fair use, indemnification and contract enforceability issues. Monica regularly collaborated with departmental and C-level executives in order to advise on legal risk and establish policies and procedures around the use of music and entertainment related initiatives.
