Ieuan works at the intersection of data and technology-enabled transactions for companies in high growth, innovation-driven markets and leads the firm’s Privacy, Security & Data Innovations Practice. His data-focused practice has three key components: (i) privacy counseling; (ii) cybersecurity; and (iii) data-driven transactions. His combined experience — mastering the intricacies of global privacy compliance, counseling on cybersecurity breaches and guiding the data and privacy aspects of corporate mergers, acquisitions and alliances — enables him to take a strategic commercial approach to providing a comprehensive set of data solutions. He is also regularly involved in corporate transactions assessing the valuation and vulnerabilities of data-rich companies in the context of capital market transactions, strategic investments and working with VCs, funds and private equity companies on growth and exit strategies.
This multi-jurisdictional practice combines technology-enabled transactions, IP licensing and blockchain with extensive experience negotiating complex commercial partnerships, joint ventures, M&A and fundraising. Ieuan’s breadth of commercial experience leads to many early stage, fast-growth companies seeking his guidance on a range of strategic business issues and they consider him to be their outside general counsel, a role in which he advises at all stages of the company life-cycle from formation and expansion through to exit.
In terms of privacy compliance, he has extensive expertise with global privacy and cybersecurity frameworks including GDPR, CCPA, HIPPA and data governance across the fintech, adtech, retail, auto, travel, healthcare and digital sectors and works with clients on the development and implementation of enterprise wide compliance programs and risk mitigation strategies in relation to their collection and use of data or deployment of privacy impacting technology. He has provided privacy regulatory counselling to Fortune 100 clients across all verticals deploying pioneering data uses, from using data in connected cars, engaging in social data targeting or addressable advertising, to cross-device tracking, and deploying geolocation capabilities, biometric and facial recognition technologies. He has extensive experience navigating the regulatory issues in adtech and analysing the issues associated with creation of custom audiences, segments and profiles; conducting look-alike analytics, insights, predictive modelling, propensity scoring, targeting and retargeting.
On the transactional side, Ieuan has engineered and negotiated some of the most pioneering data transactions globally worth over a combined value of $10 billion utilizing data in a range of innovative ways and injecting new revenue-streams into companies looking to leverage their data assets.
In the area of cybersecurity, Ieuan has advised on some of the most high-profile global security breaches including, phishing, ransomware, spoofing, malware, spyware, DOS and negligence, involving collectively more than 500 million affected individuals across 45 countries. Ieuan collaborates with his clients to proactively plan for a crisis and develop strategies to improve resiliency, respond efficiently and effectively, and protect their business and brand. His cybersecurity work includes advising on: (i) Incident Readiness Programs, including security audits, vulnerability assessments, development of information security and incident response policies, including critical infrastructure protection, network protection, supply-chain efforts, and procurement of data center hosting, cloud and SaaS solutions; as well as (ii) Incident Management Programs, which provide comprehensive assistance with data security incidents, including forensic investigation and analysis, penetration testing, containment, eradication, negotiations with regulators, governments, and intelligence agencies; investor and public relations; crisis management and notifications to affected individuals.
Ieuan combines international privacy expertise with extensive experience in the complementary areas of technology and communications law, outsourcing and interactive media. He counsels clients on a wide range of complex technology transactions and sourcing arrangements, systems integration, telecommunications procurement, and the global distribution, licensing and exploitation of content across interactive media platforms. He has completed numerous BPO and ITO transactions, including outsourcings related to applications development and maintenance, call center, hosting, co-location, claims processing, infrastructure (including data center, desktop, help-desk, telecommunications and networks), human resources, finance and accounting and facilities management. He advises clients on all aspects of contracting online, supply and distribution agreements, IT procurement and social media integration and strategy.
