Overview

John (“J.D.”) Taliaferro is a skilled trial lawyer with experience representing both private and public sector clients in complex civil litigation matters in state and federal courts and administrative proceedings before federal agencies, including the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Transportation. J.D.’s practice also involves counseling clients with respect to deceptive advertising and other consumer issues. As an associate, he was seconded to a long-time client, where he provided counsel on regulatory affairs and internal compliance.

JD is really critical to the way we operate . . . We’ve found him to be a really valuable resource to us. He’s very practical. He understands the need to sometimes get a quick answer, but that doesn’t mean you’re not getting the right answer. Chambers USA (client commentary)

Over the past several years, J.D. has held significant roles in a number of litigations and administrative matters. These representations include bench trial regarding an inverse condemnation claim, which resulted in a defense verdict for J.D.'s client, representation of a defendant in a significant consumer class action, a complex, multinational criminal and administrative investigation of a major international corporation for alleged violations of U.S. trade regulations; a complex, multinational AAA arbitration between the largest U.S. and European missile defense contractors over a failed teaming relationship; and false advertising matters before the Federal Trade Commission.

In his public sector practice, he currently represents the state of Delaware in an original jurisdiction proceeding before the U.S. Supreme Court over interpretation of unclaimed property laws. He has also represented the State of Delaware in tax matters before the Delaware Tax Appeal Board, the California State Lands Commission in an inverse condemnation case, the Port of the City of Los Angeles in high-profile litigation matters, and the City of Los Angeles in a long-running dispute with airlines over rates and charges at Los Angeles World Airports.
