Practice Capabilities

Attorneys in our New York and Los Angeles offices have one of the premier theatre practices in the country, representing producers, playwrights, directors, designers, theatre owners, motion picture studios, licensing organizations, theatrical agents, not-for-profit theatres, and investors with respect to Broadway, Off-Broadway, Las Vegas, regional, touring and foreign productions.

We provide all of the legal services required with respect to theatrical productions, including securities offerings and other methods of production financing, copyright counseling, and in-depth knowledge of the financial and compensation structures in the live stage industry. Areas of representation include:

  • Negotiating live stage rights agreements on behalf of producers, playwrights, bookwriters, composers, lyricists and other rights holders, including studios and licensing organizations, and providing analysis of copyright and privacy and publicity rights issues.
  • Negotiating service agreements for individuals, including directors, designers, and performers.
  • Preparing investment documents for theatrical productions, including analysis of securities and tax implications for domestic and foreign productions.

Leadership in Law

Loeb & Loeb’s Theatre Group received high praise in the 2010 edition of the Chambers USA Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, which ranks lawyers and law practices through interviews with clients and competitors. “The group has broad expertise of issues relating to theater,” cited Chambers, which went on to say “the team advises clients on all types of commercial transactions, with areas of strength including union, nonprofit and tax matters, as well as traditional deal work.” Loeb & Loeb’s Theatre Practice is an integral part of the firm’s Entertainment and Media Group, recipient of the prestigious 2010 Chambers Award for Excellence in Media.
