Robert Meyer practices commercial litigation. His clients include professional firms, major corporations, banks, brokers and other financial institutions. Mr. Meyer also serves as a mediator in complex litigation.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and represents both plaintiffs and defendants in securities litigation, class actions and derivative suits, intellectual property litigation (including copyright, trademark and right of publicity lawsuits), attorneys’ and accountants’ professional liability lawsuits and claims involving breach of contract and commercial fraud.
Representative Experience

Numerous shareholder and malpractice cases against accounting and law firms (including trials and appeals), as well as related SEC and PCAOB investigations.

Lord Simon Cairns v. The Franklin Mint, which involved the successful defense of right of publicity and trademark claims brought by the Estate of Princess Diana; our client recovered the largest award of attorneys’ fees under the Lanham Act.

Credit Lyonnaise Bank Nederland v. European American Bank (suit against major bank resulting from $90 million motion picture loan).

Credit Lyonnaise Bank Nederland v. TWE ($200 million law suit against film producer over motion picture financing).

Morton v. Tigrett (ownership of Hard Rock Cafe intellectual property rights).

Copyright and trademark infringement litigation involving Pac-Man and other video games.

J. David Dominelli litigation (recoveries of over $80 million on behalf of defrauded investors).
Mediator
Mr. Meyer has been engaged as the mediator in a number of complex lawsuits pending throughout the United States. These include:
- In re AOL Time Warner Securities Litigation (Southern District of New York) – as counsel to the Special Master, he assisted in the mediation of the shareholder class actions ($2.5 billion) as well as related ERISA, derivative and opt-out lawsuits
- In re ACS Shareholder Litigation (Delaware Chancery Court) - settlement of shareholder litigation alleging improper premium paid to corporate founder in connection with merger
- In re Tetra Technologies, Inc. Securities Litigation (Southern District of Texas) - settlement of shareholder class actions
- Staehr v. The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. (District of Connecticut) - settlement of shareholder and derivative lawsuits arising out of alleged payment of contingent commissions and bid rigging
- Finke v. Morgan Stanley & Co. (Missouri Circuit Court) – settlement of multi-billion dollar claim by the Liquidator (the Director of the Missouri Department of Insurance) of Great American Life Insurance Co. against financial advisor, alleging wrongful conduct that resulted in demise of insurer
- In re Priceline.com, Inc. Securities Litigation (District of Connecticut) – settlement of shareholder litigation against company, officers and directors
- Annuity and Life Re (Holdings) Ltd. (District of Connecticut) - settlement of shareholder class action against accounting firm
- Carlson v. Xerox Corporation (District of Connecticut) - settlement of 21 consolidated shareholder class actions ($750 million)
- Florida State Board of Administration et al. v. Xerox Corporation (District of Connecticut) – settlement of non-class securities claims by institutional plaintiffs
- Home Solutions of America (N.D. Texas) – settlement of shareholder and derivative lawsuits
- Confidential (pre-filing) - settlement of employment and whistleblower claims by a former in-house attorney against a public company
In addition, Mr. Meyer is a member of the Central District of California Attorney Settlement Officer Panel. In that role, he has successfully mediated several cases.
