Virtual Reality Lets Fans Play Games- Just like the Pros

This year, Gatorade, the Chicago-based sports drink brand, partnered with ad agency OMD’s Zero Code and production firm The Mill to create a first-of-its-kind athletic virtual reality film.  Using 14 GoPro cameras, the company shot the film at Nationals Park last May. The film stars Washington Nationals’ slugger Bryce Harper, who coaches you as you set up to the plate in the bottom of the ninth in a tied-up ballgame.  Fans can experience the video on a virtual reality headset, that allows viewers to explore different angles of videos with a click of the mouse or shifting the device.  VR seems to be the new frontier of sports marketing.

The article discusses the new trend of teams spending more and more to build VR experiences as a selling tool for premium sport arena tickets, and examines the relative costs and steep learning curve for this new medium.
