Loeb & Loeb Secures Landmark Defense Victory in FCPA Case

A team of Loeb & Loeb litigators represented the lead defendant in a landmark defense victory in a high-profile Foreign Corrupt Practices Act prosecution. The Department of Justice dismissed all charges against Loeb client Amaro Goncalves, former Vice President for International Sales at Smith & Wesson, and 15 other defendants, who had been charged with conspiring to pay bribes to a purported government official from the country of Gabon in connection with contracts to supply Gabon with military products. There was no actual official and the entire transaction was part of a massive government sting that ended in the largest ever FCPA case against individuals. Prior to the government dismissal, Loeb & Loeb’s work contributed to dismissal of money laundering and conspiracy charges in the case.
