Natural Gas

Practice Capabilities

Loeb & Loeb’s Energy Group attorneys have been working with clients in the natural gas sector for decades. From the days of traditional regulation to today’s highly competitive environment, we’ve been at the forefront as changing legislation and industry guidelines open new doors and pose new challenges for the industry.

With our skilled counsel, clients are able to identify and take advantage of the many opportunities posed by the unbundling of production and transportation, new distribution and storage services, and the convergence of natural gas and electric markets.

We provide effective input into the regulatory process and facilitate the channels and dialogue needed to ensure federal and state policymakers hear our clients’ voices. We have particular experience in proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and are in position to help our clients move quickly as new rules change the landscape and their business models.

Our wide range of transactional, litigation and regulatory services includes:

  • Legislative monitoring
  • Lobbying
  • Compliance
  • FERC regulation
  • Federal and state rate cases
  • Litigation
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)
  • Antitrust
  • Tax
  • Corporate and securities transactions
  • Facility certification and siting
  • Environmental and land use

As the natural gas sector continues to evolve, the strategic guidance and industry knowledge that we bring to the table means our clients will continue to be among the first to move forward in implementing the plans that will best meet their operational and financial objectives.

Loeb & Loeb’s highly regarded Energy Group attorneys work in concert with fellow counsel from our Litigation, Corporate, Tax, Real Estate, Finance and other practices to offer comprehensive representation to natural gas clients. Our cross-practice collaboration and practical approach to problem solving result in streamlined service and innovative, cost-effective solutions for our clients.

Our representative Natural Gas transactions include:

  • Represented a coalition of shippers on El Paso’s system in a dispute regarding allocation of pipeline capacity and associated charges before FERC, as well as on subsequent appeals to the United States Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit.
  • Represented prospective shippers in proceedings involving the development of new natural gas pipelines.
  • Participated actively in many interstate pipeline rate and certificate proceedings, and have been actively involved in the certification and siting of new natural gas facilities under Section 7.
  • Represented LCDs in interstate natural gas pipeline rate cases under Sections 4 and 5.
  • Advised natural gas producers in issues related to certification and boundaries of production areas.
  • Obtained blanket certificates for Hinshaw pipelines.

Leadership in Law

Our attorneys have worked on some of the most fundamental and significant energy issues, including the proceedings that resulted in FERC issuing Order Nos. 436, 636 and 637, and the aftermath as the natural gas industry deregulated, unbundled production and transportation service, and implemented new storage and transportation services. One of our attorneys authored the Chapter on Natural Gas Transportation in Energy Law and Transactions. Our attorneys also regularly serve as instructors for natural gas courses offered by independent conference organizers.
