Michael Beck concentrates his real estate practice in the areas of joint ventures, finance and leasing. He represents various types of equity participants in partnership transactions; both lenders and borrowers in finance transactions; and landlords and tenants in office, retail and ground leasing matters. Mr. Beck also has significant experience in the acquisition and sale of property and extensive experience in real estate workouts.

Prior to becoming chairman of the firm, Mr. Beck was the managing partner of the New York office following his tenure as national chair of the real estate department.

Representative Experience

  • Represented a "big four" U.S. accounting firm in the real estate aspects of the spin-off and initial public offering of its consulting group, involving approximately 150 locations.  In addition, Mr. Beck recently represented this accounting firm in the real estate aspects of the acquisition of various Arthur Andersen practice locations around the country.
  • Recently concluded the representation of the second largest US ski resort operator in a joint venture and finance arrangement for a multibillion dollar real estate development
  • Subordinated financing in connection with the $1.1 billion sale of a New York savings bank
  • Purchase of approximately $100 million of nonperforming loans on behalf of a New York investor group
  • Representation of one of the leading opportunistic real estate funds in the country, in various; acquisitions, joint venture, tax planning, real estate finance and leasing work
  • Representation of a major Japanese finance company in connection to their national lending work
  • Representation of a group of US individual real estate investors for over a decade in their acquisition and financing of a significant New York real estate portfolio
