Loeb & Loeb Launches Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Task Force

July 24, 2012

LOS ANGELES – Loeb & Loeb LLP announced today that the firm has launched a Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Task Force in response to recent actions taken by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), which was formed in 2011 and created by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010. The new task force will be housed under the firm’s Consumer Protection Defense Department.

Loeb & Loeb’s Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Task Force is composed of experienced trial attorneys who defend regulatory investigations and enforcement actions alleging violations of consumer protection and unfair competition laws, including consumer financial laws.

“The CFPB has been increasing its supervision and enforcement of federal consumer financial protection laws and is now taking action,” said Loeb & Loeb Chairman Michael D. Beck. “Our task force of legal experts will be monitoring and following closely any developments to provide our clients with timely and effective advice and to assist them with any inquiries by the CFPB into their practices.”

“The creation of this task force only furthers our efforts to stay in front of any consumer financial legal issues that our clients might face stemming from this new government agency,” continued Loeb & Loeb Partner Michael Mallow, who chairs the firm’s Consumer Protection Defense Department. Michael Thurman, who is leading the initiatives of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Task Force, added, “It is important that we not only advise clients regarding substantive regulatory requirements but also prepare them before they are subject to an investigation or enforcement action.”

Loeb & Loeb’s trial attorneys have represented clients in consumer protection matters involving the United States Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Federal Communications Commission and state enforcement agencies in California, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Washington.

In addition to the CFPB Task Force, Loeb & Loeb has a Dodd-Frank Financial Reform Task Force that was assembled to monitor certain key issues surrounding the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.
