LOS ANGELES - Loeb & Loeb recently represented HarperCollins Publishers as co-plaintiffs, with the heirs of the J.R.R. Tolkien estate, in a suit against New Line Cinema over royalties from the “Lord of the Rings” movies. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior court last year by the heirs, claimed that neither the estate nor HarperCollins had received their share of the receipts from the movie franchise which they were entitled to under contract. With the last film of the trilogy released in 2003, New Line collected revenues in excess of $6 billion from the movies, DVD and merchandise sales, and TV licensing of the iconic books.

Loeb & Loeb attorneys Robert Meyer, Mickey Mayerson, Michael Anderson and Donald Miller represented HarperCollins in the suit.
