Senior Counsel
Kevin Garlitz maintains a diverse transactional entertainment practice concentrated primarily in the film, television, radio, advertising and sports industries. He represents individual producers, motion picture and television production and distribution companies and financiers as well as rights holders, writers, directors and talent in all aspects of motion picture and television transactions at both the studio and independent level.
His practice includes work in all phases of development, finance and production, including the option and acquisition of rights (life story rights, original screenplays, foreign films, sequel rights, novels, articles, reality television shows); first look deals, the engagement of writing, directing, acting, consulting, endorsement and producing services; television holding, option and series deals; DVD/video distribution agreements; licensing arrangements; guild and union matters; and co-development and co-production ventures.
He has extensive experience in films and television finance and distribution transactions, including negative pick-ups, split rights deals, single-picture and slate financing, structuring film funds and the acquisition and licensing of films and TV programs worldwide.
Mr. Garlitz also represents advertisers, sponsors and talent in structuring and negotiating “branded entertainment” and other advertising related transactions, including celebrity endorsements, commercial tie-ins, product placement, sponsorships and agreements for print advertising and television commercial and promotional campaigns.
He has also been involved in broadcast rights agreements with college and professional sports teams and in the acquisition of local and national radio programming and film/video libraries.
Prior Work Experience
Prior to his legal career, Mr. Garlitz worked in business affairs for development and production companies in New York and at an entertainment consulting firm where he contributed articles to an international business of film magazine and participated in several independent and student film productions.
