Edward Rice focuses his practice on patent litigation trials and appeals. He has first-chaired and won trials in every major patent litigation forum in the United States, including US District Courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC) and the Court of Federal Claims. Prior Work Experience
Prior to joining Loeb, Mr. Rice was a partner at Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP. He began practicing intellectual property litigation in 1988 at Keck, Mahin and Cate in Chicago. He left Keck to clerk for the Honorable Charles R. Norgle, Sr., in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. After his clerkship, Mr. Rice joined the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Washington, DC, where his practice focused on patent litigation. He tried patent lawsuits filed against the Government in the Court of Federal Claims and held a secret security clearance. Among his other accomplishments at DOJ, Mr. Rice successfully defended the United States in a two-week patent infringement trial involving the Navy's computerized command and control systems, including the AEGIS System and the Naval Tactical Data System (NTDS). Mr. Rice also developed his appellate skills at DOJ, where he was involved in many federal circuit appeals including an en banc appeal that he argued and won. During his DOJ service, Mr. Rice received three Department of Justice Special Achievement Awards.
