David Schmerler
Senior Counsel

David Schmerler handles a wide variety of entertainment related transactions on behalf of individuals and companies. He negotiates and administers talent, production, acquisition and distribution agreements in the film, television, theatre and publishing industries, with additional involvement in celebrity endorsement, merchandising and licensing ventures. Mr. Schmerler represents screenwriters, playwrights, directors, designers, actors, production companies and individual producers in all facets of motion picture, live stage, and both scripted and unscripted television transactions. He also represents rights holders, book authors, illustrators and journalists. He regularly advises clients on guild and union matters as well as copyright, defamation, and rights of privacy and publicity.

Prior Work Experience

Prior to joining Loeb & Loeb LLP, Mr. Schmerler was a senior vice president in business affairs at the William Morris Agency, with principal activity in their motion picture, television, theatre and literary departments. He has also been a senior vice president in business affairs at International Creative Management. Before becoming an attorney, he was a writer and producer of documentary films.
